  • Elected Officials - Local elected officials serving the Town of Penfield. Not including County, State and Federal representatives.
    • Tony LaFountain Supervisor - The town supervisor fills a significant role, serving in several major capacities, including: Presiding Officer (Chairperson) – The supervisor is the presiding officer at meetings of the town board (NYS Town Law, Section 63). Town Legislator (Town Board Member) – The supervisor votes on matters before the town board as do all the other board members (NYS Town Law, Sections 60 and 63). Town Executive and Administrator – After town board decisions have been made, it is the supervisor who often carries out the decisions. The supervisor usually receives the majority of complaints and suggestions of citizens, as well. Town Fiscal Officer – The supervisor is the treasurer of the town and generally represents the town in the conduct of its financial affairs.

    • Amy Steklof - The town clerk is also clerk of the town board but has no vote. The clerk is in charge of most town records, issues certain licenses and permits, files reports with county and State agencies as required, is involved with election administration, posts legal notices, and is, in many ways, a pivot around which the town operates (NYS Town Law, Section 30).
  • Boards and Committees - Boards, advisory boards and committees play an essential role in local government. Whether created by the Penfield Town Board or by New York State Statutes, each group has been established to secure the participation of town of Penfield residents to promote good government and the effective and efficient delivery of services.
    • Assessment Review - The Town of Penfield Assessment Review Board meets once a year to hear resident grievances.
    • Cable Advisory - Town of Penfield Cable TV Advisory Board.
    • Conservation - The Conservation Board is a nine-member body whose primary function is to examine applications for environmental review and issue advisory reports to the lead agency (i.e., Town Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, Planning Board, etc.) of its findings.
    • Energy and Environment - The purpose of the advisory committee is to build on the work the town has done to lower its energy consumption and costs to taxpayers, and to promote responsible stewardship of the environment by the Town and its residents. Areas of focus include public education and awareness, environmental stewardship, reduced energy consumption, use of natural landscapes and gardens, and recycling.
    • Ethics - The purpose of the Ethics Board is to ensure that the Town is performing functions in a proper and ethical manner in accordance to the Town of Penfield's Code of Ethics. The board provides fair and objective review of the way public business is conducted.
    • Historic Preservation - The Historic Preservation Board designates Penfield Landmarks and oversees Historic Preservation Districts. The seven-member board meets on the first Thursday of each month at 7:30 PM in the Town Hall.
    • Library - The Library Board is the governing body of the Library and is responsible for setting its policies. The nine-member Board meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 7 PM in the Library's Ruth Braman Room at the Community Center.
    • Open Space Committee - This Penfield Open Space Plan is dedicated to continuing the spirit and legacy that has made Penfield a wonderful place to live and raise a family. This plan provides a logical strategy for preserving the Town's natural landscape, environmental features and residential/rural character. It will help lay the foundation for a proud legacy to leave to future generations.
    • Planning Bd - The Planning Board is responsible to consider, review, and act on applications for preliminary and final subdivision and site plan. Further, the Board has the authority to approve, approve with conditions, or deny applications for Environmental Protection Overlay District (EPOD) permits, conditional use permits, and special permits as authorized by Chapter 29 of the Town of Penfield Zoning Ordinance.

    • Trails - The mission of this committee is to "Create a hiking/biking trail committee to work with the Town of Penfield (Parks and Recreation Dept., Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and Town Board) to promote, improve and develop present and future trails/routes that best meet the needs of the residents of the Town of Penfield".
    • Transportation - The Transportation Committee is a Town of Penfield appointed advisory committee consisting of town staff, town residents and representatives from the Monroe County Department of Transportation and Sheriff's Department. A member of the Town Board chairs this committee. The Transportation Committee advises the Town Board and Planning Board on issues relating to new development, traffic calming and pedestrian safety. This committee also makes suggestions and recommendations on state and county highway studies. Residents are invited to attend meetings or address traffic and safety concerns to the Town Board.
    • Watershed Management Committee - Watershed Management Committee oversee the function and maintenance of the watercourses in the Town of Penfield. The WMC shall make recommendations to the Town Board for updates to the various watershed studies and other drainage needs within the Town of Penfield.
    • Zoning - The Zoning Board of Appeals is responsible for considering requests submitted by residents and property owners for zoning variances and special permits as outlined in the Town ordinances. The five-member Board meets on the third Thursday of each month at 6:30 PM in the Town Hall.

    • Assessor - The Assessment Department inventories all properties in the Town of Penfield and sets the value of the property for the equitable distribution of the real property tax.
    • Building and Zoning - The Building Department issues building, sign and temporary recreation permits, enforces the New York Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code, Town Laws, The Town Zoning Ordinance, Town Design Criteria and conditions of approval from the Town Board, Planning Board and Zoning Board.
    • Developmental Services - Developmental Services is responsible for assisting the Supervisor, Town Board, Historic Preservation Board and town staff with various community projects within the Town, such as rezoning and incentive zoning applications, issuance of special permits, subdivision and site plan approval within the Four Corners and LaSalle's Landing districts and developing zoning ordinance criteria and amendments.

    • Finance - The Finance Office is responsible for the following: Maintain the Town's financial records. Manage the Town's computer needs for the future. Process payment for goods and services. Preparation of the annual budgets and control of the current budgets. Preparation of the annual financial reports to the New York State Comptrollers Office Investment of all Town Funds. Payment of Principal & Interest on all Town Debt. Process all purchase orders. Handle all insurance correspondence and assist with all the Town's insurance coverage. Submit all County, State, and Federal claims for reimbursement to the Town.
    • Fire Marshal - The Fire Marshal is responsible for fire and public safety issues in existing and proposed public and private buildings throughout the town. This department is located in Town Hall.
    • Historian - The Penfield Town Historian's Office has in its care materials relevant to the founding and development of the town such as: records of events, organizations, places, persons, census records, maps, photographs and records of ongoing landmark preservation.
    • Human Resources - The Human Resources Department is responsible for administering the personnel policies of the Town. Other related activities include the processing of the Town's payroll. The Department is located on the first floor in the Town Hall.

    • Planning - The Planning Department provides technical support and recommendations to the Town Board, Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, Conservation Board and various town departments. It is also the responsibility of the Department to intake planning applications and facilitate them through the review process.
