Supervisor’s column January 22, 2018
Shadow Pines update…at the January 17 Town Board meeting the board passed a resolution authorizing me to sign the Purchase and Sales Agreement for Shadow Pines. This paves the way for a referendum vote to take place Tuesday, February 27 from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM at the Penfield Community Center, 1985 Baird Road. Early this week details and instructions will be uploaded to the website to let residents know how to obtain an absentee application and ballot, and the key dates that materials must be submitted to the Town Clerk’s office. I will provide updates to Shadow Pines each week in this column as the lead story, along with regular “Messages from the Supervisor” on the website.
I recently had the honor of attending the ribbon cutting of Bach to Rock (B2R) located in the Parkside Commons Plaza with owner and director Nick Valente. Bach to Rock provides music instruction for students of all ages and skill levels. Their lessons cover guitar, piano, drums, violin, trumpet, as well as DJ, voice and more. B2R also offers birthday parties and seasonal camps which provide great opportunities to play and learn with friends and make new ones. Early childhood classes are offered for toddlers and preschoolers. Take your skills to the next level in the Glee Club or a Rock Band...check out the opportunities offered by B2R!
The Penfield Symphony Orchestra’s next concert entitled “European Tour” is Monday, February 12 in the Penfield High School Auditorium at 7:30 PM. At this time of year I like to remind everyone about the many Aquatic Programs offered by the Recreation Department. If the wintry weather is getting you down, or if you are not into winter sports, why not try swimming at the Penfield High School Pool on Friday nights through May? Come and play, swim and exercise while enjoying this spacious pool that is set up to meet all your needs. There is a shallow end with a 4x4 tot dock for the little ones, a deep end for water walking, and two lanes are dedicated to lap swimming. The fee is just $2.00 at the door. For more details go to www.penfieldrec.org.
Fridays at Daytime Education at Recreation (DEAR) will host FREE recently released “Friday Films” on January 26, February 23 and March 23 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the Community Center. Please call 340-8655 for film titles.
I would like to recognize Wegmans as the Town’s wellness partner. Each year Wegmans provides Penfield Recreation with resources to help support the many wellness programs offered to our residents. They are a wonderful community asset that gives back in countless ways. Thank you Wegmans for all your support!
One last plug for the Big Band Radio Hour featuring the Rotary Big Band on Tuesday, February 6 in the Penfield Community Center. Dinner is at 6:00 PM followed by the Big Band Radio Hour at 7:30 PM. This radio hour/dinner dance is a FUNraising event for DEAR.
Until next week enjoy the milder weather and the melting of the recent snows. Please make sure catch basins are clear and able to accept the snowmelt and predicted rains. Be well and be safe!
