Shadow Pines update…In response to requests from residents who are seeking impartial information to help them make an informed decision when voting February 27 on two bond propositions to finance the Town’s acquisition of the former Shadow Pines Golf Club property, I will hold a Public Information Meeting on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at 7:00 PM in the Town Hall auditorium, 3100 Atlantic Avenue.

The presentation will include an overview of the history from when Shadow Pines ceased golf operations in December 2015 up to February 2018; voting information including a review of the two propositions, who is eligible to vote, and absentee ballots; financing and costs to taxpayers; and potential short- and long-term future uses of the property. Maps of the property and ballot information will be on display for everyone to review. Specific questions may be submitted ahead of the meeting by going to Questions will also be taken at the meeting following the presentation. The Penfield Trails Committee will host their annual “Indoor Hike” this Saturday, February 10, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Penfield Town Hall Auditorium, 3100 Atlantic Avenue. This year’s program will center on the Irene Gossin Nature Preserve that is coming soon to Penfield. There will also be information on trails groups from around the Rochester area. This event is free and open to the public; light refreshments will be served. While the event is free, participants are asked to pre-register by calling Penfield Recreation at 340-8655, option 0.

The Penfield Recreation Department is pleased to announce a new February Break camp for kids in conjunction with EarthWorks Institute! February Break Adventure Day Camp will be held at Harris Whalen Park, 2126 Penfield Road, Penfield, February 19 to 23, 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM. This camp is open to all youth ages 8-12. (Camp fee is $250 for residents and non-residents) There is also an extended care option from 2:30 to 4:30 PM. Activate your student’s curiosity and love of adventure! There is so much to experience in Rochester's great outdoors, and EarthWorks Institute will be your guide during this camp for “February Break-ers” seeking a full sensory outdoor experience. Stalk silently through the woods, learn the hidden stories of animal tracks, or make a forest home in a primitive debris hut. The next Flapjack Saturday Community Fundraiser sponsored by the First Baptist Church of Penfield (FBP) will be held on Saturday, February 17, from 8:00 to 10:00 AM at 1862 Penfield Road. FBP invites you for delicious pancakes, pure maple syrup, scrambled eggs, sausage and more…all for just $5.00 per person. February proceeds will go directly to help support Resolve of Greater Rochester—a group dedicated to intervening and preventing domestic and sexual violence against women. So bring the whole family, meet up with friends, or make new ones. Fellowship Hall is handicapped accessible and the breakfast is outstanding! For more information and details, please go to

General info and events for adults 55+…check out games for the brain/lunch! Exercise your mind and meet new people every Tuesday. Consider stopping by the Community Center on any Tuesday around 9:30 AM to enjoy a cup of coffee and a variety of spirited games. Join a table or start a new game on your own. There is always complimentary coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. If you stay long enough, a homemade sit down lunch is served at noon for only $4.00.
