The next amphitheater event will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, July 9 with It’s My Party on stage to entertain you. Next Tuesday, July 16, will feature the Alfred St. John Trinidad & Tobago Steel Drum Band. All programs begin at 6:30 PM at the Penfield Amphitheater and Kiwanis Stage, located behind the town hall. I hope to see you there.
Additionally, the Penfield Pops Band will be performing at the amphitheater on Monday, July 15. Please note that this program begins at 7:00 PM. I would like to recognize this year’s amphitheater sponsors, without the support of the following organizations and businesses we would not be able to provide this quality programming for our residents: Penfield-Perinton Kiwanis, The Woodlands Fairport Baptist Homes, Synergy IT Solutions, and Wegmans. I thank them for all they do to enhance the quality of life in Penfield.
On June 25, Penfield DPW began a Monroe County DOT project on Harris Road and is moving fill from that site to a stretch of Whalen Road near Clark Road in order to reduce the slope from the road surface to the right-of-way west and south of the roadway. (Both Harris and Whalen are county roads.) Fill will be graded and seeded as the project progresses.
As of today, half the Harris Road project is complete. On or about July 9 work will resume and more fill material will be brought to the Whalen Road site. This process will continue throughout the season as material becomes available and will carry on until the fill project is complete. Please direct any questions about this project to DPW Director Eric Tait, 340-8691.
The next guided hike by the Penfield Trails Committee will be held this coming Saturday, July 13 from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at Abraham Lincoln Park. Explore the ups and downs of this county park from wooded uplands to the bay shore trail connections. While all hikes are FREE, we ask that you please pre-register by calling 340-8655, x-0. Wear appropriate footwear and please, no pets. Meet at the Smith Road trailhead located on Smith Road off Empire Blvd and look for the hike signs.
While many of us are enjoying the summer weather, taking vacations, and attending camps and other programs, the Penfield Ecumenical Food Shelf continues to provide support to more than 85 families every week. They are constantly in need of donations to stock their shelves, and they rely on the generosity of our community. To learn more about their current need, please go to www.penfieldecumenicalfoodshelf.org. Thank you in advance for any support you are able to provide…it does make a difference.
The week of July 22 the Penfield Little League complex at the town hall will have even more action and excitement than normal. Teams will arrive from all across New York State to determine who will be going to Williamsport for the Little League World Series. Games begin Tuesday, July 23 and run from 10:00 AM through 7:30 PM. For a complete schedule of events, please visit www.penfieldbaseball.com.
The American Red Cross is in a critical need of all blood types, especially type O positive blood. There are not enough people coming forward to give blood and platelets and they need our help to replenish the supply. Please schedule an appointment today to donate blood or platelets and help save the life of a wife, child, or husband who just needs one donor like you to step forward. Your donation can help meet the needs of patients in critical situations—kids fighting cancer, patients waiting for serious surgeries, and people who will need blood to survive traumatic injuries.
Individuals who are 17 years of age, who meet weight and height requirements (110 pounds or more, depending on height), and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. Please bring your Red Cross blood donor card or other form of personal ID when you come to donate. Blood drive locations and hours are subject to change. Visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) for additional details. Thank you in advance for helping to make a difference in someone’s life!
Until next week, enjoy the beautiful weather and consider attending an upcoming amphitheater event or watching one of the Little League games being played for a chance to go to Williamsport. I know where I will be spending my lunch breaks the week of July 22nd…watching baseball and enjoying a hot or burger or both at Rose’s!
