Monroe County has informed us of two projects they will begin working on in their right-of-way adjacent to the Shadow Pines property. First, they will be removing a locust tree on the southwest corner of Atlantic Ave and Whalen Road due to the diseased condition of the tree. They will also remove three trees adjacent to the small cemetery that are leaning over the road and another tree that came down across the creek opposite the quarry. The county is concerned that these trees are vulnerable to high winds, heavy snow, and ice, posing a public safety hazard.
Their second project is the extension of two culvert pipes running under Whalen Road. The town has been filling this area but we have halted work until the county work is completed. We will resume and complete the filling efforts when the county finishes the culvert project.
Work on the tree and culvert projects will take place over the next week or two. Terry Tree is the contractor for tree removal. Monroe County DPW will be performing the culvert work; however they may contract Penfield DPW to assist.
