I’d like to reinforce a few COVID-19 updates from our state and county leadership.
Today, Governor Cuomo shared the metrics being used to determine which regions in the state meet the criteria for “unpausing.” The good news is our region meets most of the criteria to prepare a phased reopening. However, we do need to do more testing for active cases of COVID-19 to achieve the testing rate of 30 tests per 1,000 residents per month.
Our region has the means to meet that metric. As of last Friday, a drive-through test site is available at MCC with a capacity to conduct 300 tests per day. Currently, two groups of people are eligible for testing.
The first group is essential workers—even those who are not symptomatic. Essential workers are generally those working in the community who come into contact with the public. If you have been identified in the job you do as being an essential worker and have not yet been tested please considered doing so.
The second group of people eligible for testing are residents who are symptomatic. If you think you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms please contact your healthcare provider to determine your next steps, which may include a visit to the MCC test site.
Appointments are required for testing. To make an appointment or ask questions please call (888) 364-3065. There is no cost to individuals for the test.
I also want to remind everyone of the importance of wearing face coverings when outside our homes. Wearing masks in public is our civic duty and it’s the easiest thing we can all do to save lives. Penfield is a caring community, please wear a mask to show your concern and support for others.
