If you’re one of thousands already using the ROC COVID symptom tracker you can now sign up for a new free texting feature designed to remind you to submit your daily survey. Prior to this feature, participants could only receive email reminders. Current participants will be given the option to switch to text reminders in an upcoming email. New participants can opt-in when they register for ROC COVID.
The daily survey is designed to collect data to help identify COVID-19 outbreaks and help stop the spread of the virus in Monroe and 11 other counties in the Finger Lakes region.
Today’s announcement stated that more than 20,000 people are participating in symptom tracking, and they have completed more than 317,000 daily screenings. Public health officials are using the data to understand how COVID-19 symptoms are showing up in our region. If hot spots appear, resources will be deployed to the specific areas to stop outbreaks quickly and effectively.
I signed up weeks ago when it was first released. The survey is quick and easy. There are just a few questions that you are encouraged to answer daily, even if you have no symptoms. Questions include whether you have a fever, a cough, chills or other primary coronavirus symptoms, as well as basic demographic information. You are not asked to submit identifying information, such as name or address. The data is encrypted and stored in a secure environment by Common Ground Health, the region’s health research and planning agency.
