Penfield Town Supervisor Tony LaFountain and the Penfield Town Board adopted the Town’s Final 2018 Budget at the October 18 legislative meeting.The Final 2018 Budget, including special districts, is $19.1 M. The Town Operating Budget, without special districts, is $16.2 M.

The Town of Penfield announces the launch of “Bri-Pen Senior Rides” on Monday, May 1. This new community volunteer transportation service is for seniors age 65 and older who require transportation to medical appointments and religious services within Monroe County.

Living Next to Stormwater Ponds IV
Penfield residents are invited to a community presentation entitled “Living Next to Stormwater Ponds” on Tuesday, April 9 at 7:00 PM at the Town Hall, 3100 Atlantic Ave. The presentation, hosted by Town Engineer Geoff Benway, marks the fourth straight year of programming to increase awareness of the function of stormwater ponds and to present proper care and maintenance techniques to minimize common issues like algae, erosion, weeds, invasive species and nuisance wildlife. The evening will also include information on green infrastructure practices to help residents reduce their water quality impacts.

Town, Penfield Schools to Evaluate Shared Services
The Town of Penfield and the Penfield Central School District have announced that they are preparing a joint grant application to the New York State Department of State for a Local Government Efficiency (LGE) Grant. The grant would be used to evaluate the feasibility of constructing a shared services facility to be located on the town’s public works complex on Jackson Road.

The Town of Penfield announces a special two-day brush drop-off for residents Friday, November 16 and Saturday, November 17 at the Public Works Complex (1607 Jackson Road) from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. both days. Town Board Adopts 2013 Budget
Penfield Town Supervisor Tony LaFountain and the Penfield Town Board adopted the town’s 2013 Final Budget at the October 17 legislative meeting. The $15.1 million budget keeps the town tax rate flat at the 2012 rate of $2.64 per $1,000 of assessed property value, marking the fourth consecutive year at that rate. Penfield’s property tax remains one of the lowest in Monroe County. The Town of Penfield receives approximately $0.08 of each tax dollar.

In keeping with the Town of Penfield’s efforts to incorporate sustainable practices into its operations, the town’s Sewer Department has recently converted a small pump station to solar power.
Penfield to Host Electric Car Show April 28
The Town of Penfield will host an electric car show as part of its “Penfield Cleanup Day” activities this Saturday, April 28, 9:00 a.m. to noon at the Penfield Community Center, 1985 Baird Road. The car show was added to the day’s events because of keen interest in the town’s new free electric car charging station – the first publicly available charging station in Monroe County – at the community center. A ribbon-cutting for the charging station is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.

The Great Penfield Spring Cleanup
The Town of Penfield and its Energy and Environment Advisory Committee invite residents to join in “The Great Penfield Spring Cleanup 2012” from April to May. This is a unique opportunity for residents to pitch in to clean up around town and responsibly clear out their houses, file cabinets, garages, basements, sheds and more. Together, these events will beautify the town, support responsible disposal of hazardous materials, redirect materials from landfills to recycling centers and help protect residents from identity theft.
Town Updating Open Space Plan
The Town of Penfield’s 2010 Comprehensive Plan calls for continued commitment to open space preservation. In support of this recommendation, the Penfield Town Board has formed a new 2012 Open Space Committee to review and update the 2006 Open Space Plan. The committee is charged to review the town’s existing open space inventory and identify new properties for consideration for open space designation.
Living Next to Ponds III Feb 28

The meeting also marks the first official town meeting of Penfield’s Bicentennial year. To begin the celebration, there will be a Bicentennial reception in the Town Hall rotunda at 6:30 p.m. with light refreshments, Bicentennial souvenirs, and entertainment from the Four Nouns. In the auditorium at 7:00 p.m., the Penfield Players will present a re-enactment of the Town of Penfield’s first Town Board meeting in 1810.

Tot Trail Opening September 29th
PENFIELD, N.Y., SEPTEMBER 24, 2009 – The Town of Penfield, in partnership with the Greater Rochester Health Foundation, has installed a new mini-fitness trail in Veterans’ Memorial Park for its youngest residents. The 300-foot “Tot Trail,” designed for children ages two to five, is located on the west side of the 85-acre Veteran’s Memorial Park near the Dolomite Lodge, just south of the playground. The trail features four age-appropriate fitness stations designed to develop strength, agility and balance. Children exploring the trail will find an upper body strength trainer, a low-to-the-ground curved balance beam, a group of mini pod toad stools, and an inviting rock-bluff. A new butterfly garden alongside the trail is part of the installation.

Panorama Trail Sidewalk and Roadway Projects
The Town of Penfield will make improvements to the sidewalk system and road surface of Panorama Trail from Browncroft Boulevard to Penfield Road. Panorama Trail is one of the busiest town-owned roads in all of Monroe County with roughly 10,000 cars traveling the stretch each day.
Penfield Financials Maintain Impressive Moodys Rating
Moodys Investors Service has again assigned an Aa3-Excellent rating to the Town of Penfield for a General Obligation Public Improvement Bond of 1.36 million. With the Aa3 credit rating, the Town of Penfield secured a 20-year note at an average of 3.99%. Proceeds from the bond sale will enable the town to finance sewer improvements for the Extension 19 Pump Station improvement project and Sewer Extension 46.
CDBG Grants
The Town of Penfield has been awarded two $40,000 Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) to improve handicap accessibility at the Town Hall, Penfield Community Center and Rothfuss Park. The grants were secured by Penfield’s Monroe County Legislator Tony LaFountain and funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). CDBG grants are administered by the Monroe County Community Development Administration. Funds are available as of August 1, 2009.

Local Waterfront Revitalization Program Public Info Meeting May 11
The public is invited to an informational meeting about the update of the Town of Penfield’s Local Waterfront Revitalization Program. The meeting will be held on Monday, May 11 at 7:00 pm at the Penfield Town Hall, 3100 Atlantic Avenue.
Scoping Process Underway for Proposed BayTowne Plaza Expansion
The Town of Penfield’s Planning Board has begun the scoping process for a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for a proposed expansion of Bay Towne Plaza. The scoping process is a requirement of the New York State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA). The process creates an outline of topics to be included in the DEIS and essentially functions as a draft table of contents to be addressed by the applicant in conjunction with its request to expand Bay Towne Plaza. The draft scope is available on the Planning Department's webpage at www.penfield.org , at the Town Clerk's Office, and the Penfield Public Library. The applicant for this project is DiMarco Brandt Point LLC, Brighton-Henrietta Town Line Road.
Town Board to Host a Community Discussion April 14
The Penfield Town Board and Supervisor George C. Wiedemer will hold a community discussion Tuesday, April 14, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Browncroft Community Church, 2530 Browncroft Blvd.This informal discussion is open to the public.
Town Clerk Announcement
Penfield Supervisor George Wiedemer and the Town Board have chosen Amy Rosenbaum Steklof to complete the term of retiring Town Clerk Cassie Williams. Williams will retire effective June 30, 2009; her term expires December 31, 2009. After an extensive interview process, the Town Board selected Steklof, a Penfield native with experience in education, administration, records management, and community and public service, to fill the open position. As Town Clerk, Steklof will further a family-wide commitment to public service. Her father, Richard Rosenbaum, is a retired New York State Supreme Court Justice and author. Steklof is also the sister of Matthew Rosenbaum, past Penfield Town Councilman and current New York State Supreme Court Justice. Ms. Steklof will run for election in November 2009 to continue in the role of Town Clerk. The Town Clerk’s term is four years.
Supervisor Wiedemer Will Not Seek Fourth Term
Penfield Supervisor George Wiedemer has announced he will not be a candidate for a fourth term as Town Supervisor this coming fall. Supervisor Wiedemer has dedicated 25 years to public service. He first represented the town of Penfield as a Monroe County Legislator from 1985 through 2003. Mr. Wiedemer was then elected to three terms as Penfield Town Supervisor beginning in 2004.
Town Clerk Retirement
Penfield Supervisor George Wiedemer and the Town Board announce the retirement of Town Clerk Cassie Williams effective June 30, 2009. Ms. Williams has had a lengthy and distinguished career as Penfield Town Clerk since first being elected to the office in 1987.
2010 Bicentennial Generations Strong
The Penfield Town Supervisor and Penfield Town Council are pleased to announce the theme and logo design for Penfield’s Bicentennial Celebration in 2010. After several meetings and discussions, the Bicentennial Steering Committee agreed upon a logo design that reflects the bicentennial theme, Generations Strong- a tribute to the duration of the township, Penfield’s agricultural roots and residential vitality. It also honors the thousands of families who have chosen to make Penfield their home over the past 200 years.
Comprehensive Plan Land Use Workshops 1/24 and 1/26
Penfield residents are invited to two public input sessions on future land use in the town of Penfield hosted by the Comprehensive Plan Update Committee. The meetings are scheduled for Saturday, January 24, 9:00 am to 12 noon at the Penfield Community Center, 1985 Baird Road, and Monday, January 26, 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Dolomite Lodge-Veterans Memorial park behind the Town Hall, 3100 Atlantic Ave. The meetings will share the same agenda and are offered in two sessions to accommodate residents’ schedules. Doors open 30 minutes early.
New Recreation Needs Survey Summary Online
The Town of Penfield conducted a Recreation Needs survey during the summer of 2008 as a follow up to recommendations put forth in the town’s 2001 and 2007 Parks and Recreation Master Plan updates. Both updates called for a feasibility study to consider renovating and expanding the existing Community Center and/or building a new multi-purpose recreation facility.

New Signal Jackson-Atlantic Intersection
Penfield Supervisor Tony LaFountain is pleased to announce that the New York State Department of Transportation has notified the Town that it will install a new three-color traffic signal at the intersection of Jackson Road and Atlantic Avenue (Route 286).

Town Drawe Appointed to County Legislature, Resigns from Town Board
Penfield Town Councilwoman Debbie Drawe announced August 21 she is resigning her seat on the Town Board to accept an appointment to represent Penfield (District 9) in the Monroe County Legislature effective August 21. Drawe was appointed to the seat by Monroe County Legislature President Wayne Zyra to fill the vacancy of Legislator Tony LaFountain, who tendered his resignation August 19.
